The now famous Malphrus Cameron village sewer blob. Sewer "snake cams" picked this up in North Carolina, causing quite a stir. Some are now saying that it's a community of parasites living in a clump, acting as one. But, some still debate this. Watch the video and make up your own mind. We at Haunted Carolinas fully believe this to be some form of worm or easily explainable parasitic organism. PLEASE BE CAUTIONED...the link I am posting is to a YouTube video and some of the comments users leave can be quite harsh. Use caution if you can be offended by language of this nature. The video can be found HERE. We take no credit for this video, we are merely providing you a link to view the evidence for yourself.

Mystery Animal sighted in NC
Here is another link to an interesting story about an unexplained creature found in North Carolina. Bill and Gayle Kurdian photographed this creature on their property in Asheboro NC and it has baffled scientists. Some say it could be a breed of Jackal and some say it's a rare breed of fox, no one is quite sure. Follow the link and read the article, see what you think about it. The site you will be re-directed to has no affiliation with Haunted Carolinas and we take no credit for their work.

The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp:
No Crypto site regarding North and South Carolina would be complete without the infamous Lizard man of Scape Ore Swamp. The Lizard Man is described as being seven feet tall (over 2m), bipedal, and well built, with green scaly skin and glowing orange eyes. It is said to have three toes on each foot and three fingers on each hand which end in a circular pad on them that stick to walls. The creature has an incredible degree of strength, more than capable of ripping into a car. The existence of this creature is, of course, unconfirmed but many eye witnesses swear of it's existence. Citizens of Lee County SC have reported many hair-raising incidents involving this creature including some pretty impressive property damage including the destroyed mini-van pictured below. The debate about the existence of this creature will certainly rage on forever and the answers may never present themselves. Do the inhabitants of Lee County have their very own monster or has a prankster taken advantage of their good nature? The choice is yours. Read more about the Lizard man on Wikipedia.

A Four minute YouTube video about Lizard Man can be found here. Again, Some harsh language will be found in the comments section here. We apologize for this, and you should avoid if this will offend you. This is actually a trailer of sorts for the author's movie "The Long Way Home" about Big foot and similar creatures in the Carolinas.
A good video about Lizard man with interviews of eyewitnesses. Very well done

The "Daddy" of all cryptos, The Sasquatch:
We would certainly be remiss if we did not discuss this creature and it's relevance to the Carolinas. Sasquatch has been reported in every US state except for Hawaii (Bigfoot is not a beach person, he hates sand in his fur and he is not much of a surfer) and North and South Carolina have a long history of reported sightings of the creature. Even though North Carolina is the tenth most populous state, most of that population is centered in the piedmont along the I 85 corridor. NC is growing, but there are vast expanses of woodland and swamps in the mountains and eastern part of the state. South Carolina, likewise, has vast areas of wilderness that are the home to many wild creatures. Bigfoot has proven time and time again that he has no problem inhabiting areas that are occupied in close proximity by humans, and the Carolinas are no exception to this rule. Large amounts of food and shelter are readily available for a creature of this type in our area, in fact some would say it was an ideal location. This topic has been a source of much debate since the famed Patterson film was released in 1967. This infamous video was filmed near Bluff Creek in Northern California and since then sasquatch fever has infested North America. Do you believe in Big foot? Many people in the Carolinas do. In North Carolina, Big Foot is often referred to as Boojum. The creature is usually said to be between six and eight feet tall, covered in shaggy grey hair, and to have a strong, unpleasant odor. But the creature is more often heard than seen, it's monkey-like howling has been heard up and down the mountains. North Carolinians are very passionate about this creature, often naming them when they spot them. One that was spotted often during the 1970's was called "Knobby" while other NC residents refer to these animals as "Wampus Cat". This creature is extremely important to the world of cryptozoology and was the beast that put this field on the map.
Video that shows photos, artist renderings, and other examples of sasquatch. The sounds playing are supposedly the real recorded sounds of bigfoot.
More bigfoot information on video - Has bigfoot killed humans?
The famous Patterson film. The film that started it all. Watch it until the end. A new video will begin playing with footage of the "Jacobs Creature" - Very interesting indeed

The Vampire Beast of Bladenboro:
In 1953 North Carolina witnessed the biggest Crypto craze in the state's history with reports of the Vampire beast of Bladenboro. This creature was reported to be a cat-like creature "Like a bear or a panther" that was "three feet long, twenty inches high, with a long tail and a cat's face." This creature was reportedly dragging large dogs off into the underbrush and draining them of all their blood through massive bite marks in the neck. The television show "Monster Quest" even dedicated an episode to this creature and the frenzy that surrounded it. The conclusion of the film crew was that it was possibly a Carolina Panther that was supposed to be extinct but that had possibly held on in small numbers. No matter what it was the frenzy surrounding these attacks was very real and left the inhabitants of this town in fear for many years. In my opinion proving the existence of a creature thought to be extinct (The Carolina Panther) is every bit as interesting as any tall tale that could be spun by someone claiming to have spotted the Vampire Beast.

The Demon Dog of Valle Crucis:
One of the more truly frightening crypto tales to come out of North Carolina happened near the sleepy little town of Valle Crucis (The name in Latin means "Valley of the Cross") which is a mountain town with twisting and turning mountain roads. The name comes from two rivers which intersect to form the shape of a cross. This town is a quiet little town which sees very little excitement. That is unless the Demon Dog is around. At night the town of Valle Crucis reveals it's supernatural side and you don't want to be caught out alone near the little stone church off of highway 194. It is reported that the graveyard of this church houses something more than the deceased residents that are buried there. It is rumored that this is the home of the Demon Dog. The Demon Dog is reported to be as wide and as tall as a full grown man with fiery eyes that blaze with the intensity of Hell's Fire. This werewolf type creature has reportedly chased cars and kept pace with them at speeds in excess of 60 mph. Does Valle Crucis really have a werewolf? I don't know. But, I don't want to walk down highway 194 past the church at the edge of town by myself either.

The Moon Eyed People:
The Moon-Eyed People are a race of small men who, according to Cherokee legend, live underground and only emerge at night. The Moon Eyed people are reported to be very short, have very pale skin, and most of them are said to be bearded. The southern mountain ranges in NC are said to be littered with ruins left behind by this small race of gnome like creatures including low stone walls and mounds. The most famous of these structures can be found at Fort Mountain just over the NC border into Georgia. The area gets it's name from an 850 foot stone wall that was found here that ranges in height from 2 to 6 feet and covers the expanse of the ridge. The Moon eyed people are said to have been blinded by sunlight, so they only came out at night. During a full moon they are said to have been as blind as during the daylight hours. They were also said to live in small round mud huts that had underground chambers (They sound like Hobbits!) Who were the Moon eyed people? Many debates have taken place over the years on this very subject, but no one knows if they ever even really existed or were just a Cherokee legend. It's part of the folk lore of NC and a very interesting story, but it will likely remain a mystery forever. The interesting part of the legend is that they were reported by the Cherokee even before the Spaniards came to the new world in search of gold.

The Siren of the French Broad River:
Since 1845 mysterious tales of a siren that lures men to their doom have circulated in the Asheville NC area. It is rumored that a man out hiking alone by himself would be plagued by dreams of a beautiful vision of a woman (said to look much like a Cherokee) for days along his hike. Then, as he approached the French Broad River he would be compelled to stop, and set up camp. But, rather than enter his tent at night he would be drawn toward the water's edge where he would see this beautiful woman waiting for him. As he would reach out his hand to touch hers it is told that rather than warm flesh he would be greeted by a cold, slimey, scale covered hand that would rip and tear his skin and pull him to his doom in the river.

The Lake Norman Monster:
What lurks in the waters of NC's Lake Norman? No one seems certain but over 50 people have reported seeing a strange creature in it's waters. The "creature" has been effectionately named "Normie". Some speculate that it is a mutated "frankenfish" or "Snakehead" fish that has been exposed to some sort of industrial waste (some say possibly nuclear waste) and has grown to a massive size. Some people believe that many of these sightings can be traced back to massive amounts of beer and sun exposure by thrill seekers spending time on the lake. Who is right? Who knows. Maybe you can be the first to photograph Normie and bring the evidence to the world.

North Carolinas Faeries:
The Tsawasi and Tsagasi are another of the Cherokee legends to saturate the Western North Carolina area. These were spirits who helped hunters sneak up on their prey without startling it. They were good natured creatures who wanted to help the indigenous people survive in the rough terrain. There were other "races" of faerie who were not evil but were said to play tricks on the Cherokee by making them slip and fall while hunting in the woods. Some say that evidence for the existence of these faeries is scattered all across Western NC, including mound type structures, mysterious smoke bellowing from the ground in some areas, and relics known as faerie crosses. These were small crosses formed out of crystal and sometimes adorned with gemstones. These crosses are still found until this day and are valuable additions to serious gemstone enthusiasts collections. The spirits of these faeries are said to live near rivers and streams and hide under rocks. The river that flows near Chimney Rock NC is one perfect example of a dwelling place for the Tsawasi and Tsagasi. Just Cherokee legend? You decide.
