I have spent many years of my life pondering the supernatural, and trying to find a reasonable answer for all of the mysteries contained within the perameters of the field. I wanted something that might possibly tie together all the fields into one explainable phenomena. I felt that it was possible to find correlations between paranormal experiences, sightings of strange animals (cryptozoology), and the ufo flaps that have been appearing across the globe. During my research I learned of a theory, a theory based on strings. When I read this theory my life changed in a way....I could never see things the same way again. Could string theory be the one unifying factor that helps paranormal researchers find the answers? I think it's very possible. It will be difficult to unify the field, however. For one reason or another paranormal investigators seem to not like each other very much. Now, on the surface, on a personal level they get along well enough. But it has become somewhat of a secret society in some ways, a society filled with secrecy and jealousy. Everyone wants to be THE one to find the answers and no one seems to want to work together. Hopefully a new discovery that unifies the fields will break down some of these walls.
Like I said in the header of this page: I am not schooled in physics and more than that I suck at mathematics in any form. My understanding of the theories I will talk about here are basic, at best. If you want to learn more about string theory and M-theory, I highly suggest visiting your local library (people still do that, right?) or doing a google search to find more information. So before I get a million e-mails telling me that I am wrong, I want to preface it by saying that I do not claim to know the facts. I have only picked up on the broad brush strokes of the concept, and even that was enough to change the way I think about everything. I might eventually decide that I don't agree with this concept, and it might eventually be proven to be entirely wrong. But, in the meantime I am going to entertain the idea because it is completely and totally fascinating to me. If you wish to join me on this theoretical journey, please...continue to read. I will issue another warning at this point. I suck as an author and I type like a monkey with a broken hand. This will be full of horrible grammar and spelling errors that will make my teachers cringe in agony.
With that being said, let's begin. What is String Theory?:
The theory, in it's basic form, is this: All matter is made up of tiny sub-atomic particles, such as protons. Protons are made up of smaller particles called quarks. It was commonly believed in the past that these particles were spherical in shape, but the new theory suggests that they are actually constructed of vibrating strings. The strings make up all matter and energy in the unviverse, and the rate at which the string vibrates dictates what particles it will become. They also provide a basis for the four fundamental forces of the universe which are gravity, weak interaction, strong interaction, and the electromagnetic force.There are five different string theories, with very complicated differences between them. The unifying fact amongst all the theories is that in order for them to be mathematically correct more dimensions must exist in the universe than we had originally suspected. In four of the theories there are a total of 10 dimensions, and one of them claimed 26 different dimensions. In 1995 M-theory was invented and it changed everything. This theory connects all the other string theories into one big master theory. It introduced the theory that some strings were open strings and some were closed (like a loop). A closed string (like a circle, or loop) can move between all dimensions.The open strings are like a line and they are confined to this brane, or dimensional reality ("brane" is short for membrane). M-theory says that these branes can be stretched into a 10 dimensional brane that exists within an 11 dimension world. The closed string matter can travel between these branes. These dimensions consist of 3 spatial ones (the ones we are familiar with), a fourth which is time, and 6 curled up dimensions, and there is one extra spatial dimension within which all of this exists. The curled up dimensions are roughly the size and shape of one string and are undetectable, they do not effect our reality in the slightest. They are so small as to remain undetectable to us. Regarding the branes themselves, there is an infinite number of these and this is important to remember. The mathematics to explain this theory work perfectly, but as of now it is impossible to PROVE this theory. If you want to imagine this concept, think of a spaghetti dinner in a bowl. The spaghetti strands are the dimensions and the bowl would be the extra spatial world in which they exist.
When two branes collide, it is said to create another. Entire universes exist on these branes (they are stretched to infinite sizes, remember) and everything contained here is made up of open strings that are stuck to this brane. It is said that the collision of two branes could be what caused our "big bang theory" and created our universe as we know it. Also, it is postulated that in the areas where these branes contact, wormholes are formed. If one knew how to manipulate the strings of matter in the proper fashion and understood the dimensions that are undetectable to us, they could quite easily travel back and forth from these branes (universes) and observe life in our dimension while remaining reasonably undetected to us here on our brane. If you remember that an infinite number of branes exist this allows us to regress this back to infinity. With an infinite number of branes with possible connection points and passage ways into other dimensions....this is where the wonders of M-theory impact the paranormal world in a huge way.
Paranormal researches have been gathering evidence in their collective fields for many years, but the truth of the matter is that not one of these fields is any closer to proving their beliefs any more than they were when they first started. Sure, the evidence is piling up and some of it is AMAZING. Some of it is life changing. But, what IS it? Ghost hunters bring back amazing photos of shadowy beings, and mists, and orbs...and they record disembodied voices on their digital voice recorders. UFO investigators snap photos of bizarre lights and strange craft in the air above our planet, and beneath our seas. The cryptozoologists have given us some amazing photos of some apparantly unknown beasties roaming the Earth. All of this evidence is what DRIVES us to look for more, to look for the answers. It drives us to find the answers, because none of us have to this point. Sure, some people will tell you that they KNOW what appears in the photos, they will even give you some great ideas as to why they believe this...but the simple truth is that they cannot prove it.
Now, before I go any farther I want to state on the record that I am NOT a skeptic of the strange and unexplained. Anyone who knows me will tell you that the opposite of this is, in fact, true. I tend to WANT to believe when others would scoff. I am drawn to this stuff like a moth to a flame, it's my passion. But, after 38 years on this planet and countless investigations I am still as confused as to what I TRULY believe this stuff is as the day that I started. The only difference is that I am MUCH more sure that it exists. My personal fields of interest are ghosts and UFO investigations. That's not to say that I am not utterly fascinated with the cryptids, because I am. I am just not as inclined to want to spend tons of time in rough terrain looking for dung and foot prints. I leave that to people who are much more inclined for this type of activity and have better physical endurance to carry out these types of investigations. I'm not cut out to be a rugged outdoorsman. But, the investigations that I have conducted into my fields of interest have yielded high amounts of evidence that has driven me to continue, to seek out the answers.
With this in mind, let's discuss some of the types of evidence that people find while investigating and how these events could in fact be explained while keeping M-theory in mind.
In the field of paranormal studies some of the most common types of evidence are: EVP recordings (the most common type of evidence found on ghost hunts), photographic evidence (not photos of moisture and bugs or condensed breath floating in the air), and video evidence usually consisting of objects moving on their own, shadowy apparitions, or shadow people.
Disembodied voices (or EVP recordings) are the events that I think can most closely be connected to some of the principals presented to us by string theory. If we take into account the things we have learned and remember that there are 11 dimensions in our brane and only three of which we can detect, this makes the concept of EVP evidence take on a whole new light. If a complete dimension can exist mere millimeters away from us, on a plane that we cannot detect and this plane is occupied by other beings we have a scenario in place that can bring interest to our discussion. For a second let's assume that this plane of existence can be occupied by beings that are on a higher level of awareness than we are, and they have sight into our dimension. Let's, for sake of argument, say that these people can influence our senses and interact with us in ways that we are not aware of. It seems highly possible, to me, that sounds made in this brane could be detected in our dimension and recorded. If this were to happen it would seem to us like we had made contact with what we know as a "ghost". Now, it's completely possible that these beings have no real awareness of us in the literal sense, but they can hear us. Maybe they can't see us, but our sounds can be detected by them (just like theirs are by us) and they are simply responding to our voices. It becomes highly likely, in this scenario, that we are haunting them. They could possibly see us as "spirits" and they could be as confused by our presence as we are by theirs.
Some evidence I have to support this is an EVP that was captured by a member of a paranormal group that I used to work for. On this particular investigation he and some members of the group (I was not present) had some activity in the location in which they were investigating and decided to do an EVP session. They had been hearing noises and were calling out in hopes of getting some evidence. One of the EVP recordings that they captured was a CLEAR female voice that responded saying (and I am paraphrasing because I do not have a copy of the evidence) "I am not sure but I think they are on the same plane as us". The voice had heard the investigators and had heard them clearly enough to respond by saying that they thought they actually existed on the same plane as them. For a long time, I struggled with this EVP clip. It was very clear and VERY convincing, but those words "haunted" me. I wanted to know what they could have meant by that comment. After studying string theory, the EVP clip hit home with me in a big way. Could it be a complete and total coincidence? Absolutely. But, it could also be one of the tiny pieces of the puzzle that point towards the bigger picture.
The field of UFO study has had some very recent evidence that I also feel is highly supported by the string theory. I am sure all of you have seen the NASA footage on YouTube of the "craft" that have been showing up on LOTS of leaked NASA tapes. The most famous case involves the broken tether from the space station that floated off from the astronauts after breaking free from the craft. This 12 mile long tether floated out into space while the astronauts filmed it, and some amazing things happened during this footage. Strange swimming "craft" (some people speculate that they are actually alive and some even refer to them as "critters") begin to fill the frame of the video for all the world looking like strange fish swimming in a cosmic aquarium. Some of these things, when viewed in relation to the tether, give the appearance of being up to TWO MILES WIDE. To try to describe to you what these things look like, try to imagine a white eyeball with a dark center, and imagine that the eye "pulsates", or comes in and out of view seemingly at will. There are countless videos of these things appearing out of thin air, doing what they are going to do, and then vanishing the same way they appeared. Also, keep this in mind: We aren't talking about one or two craft showing up in the video...they fill the screen. There are hundreds of these objects. Like I said previously, no one knows what these objects are...we just know that they are there. To me it would be no less of an amazing discovery to find out that they were indeed living objects, in fact that would be an amazing find. But, if they are craft that are intelligently controlled one would have to assume that they were indeed occupied by living beings. Are they alien in nature (ET's) or are they dimensional beings who have learned how to vibrate the strings for just long enough to appear in our dimension and then vanish back behind the safe walls of their brane? This debate could rage on for years before we know the real answer, IF we ever do. Some people speculate that these are the craft of the legendary Anunaki, said to have been the beings that seeded life on our planet (a topic for another paper) and some believe that they are simply "critters". In either case, it's obvious that they are here. Now I want to know WHAT they are, and where they are from. Below is a photo of one of the objects.
The cryptid world is not free from it's associations from M-theory either. For ages the biggest question in this field has gone like this: If races of giant creatures inhabit our planet, how could they hide for this long and why can we not find evidence of their existence here on Earth? And, one would have to admit that this is a very valid question, and one that I will admit that I have struggled with as well. If we apply the theories we have discussed here we find several explanations that help us wrap our mind around this concept. If we begin to look at these creatures as dimensional entities who can manipulate the strings and travel between the branes, then we begin to see the whole field in a new light. It becomes possible, then, that these creatures do NOT hide out in our realm, but only visit here when they need to, or want to. Also if you believe some theorists who say that this would be more likely in areas where branes meet, and intersect, then you begin to see patterns that have already been outlined by case sighting histories. Each creature seems to have "hot spots" where they are sighted more than in other places and this could quite possibly be brane intersection points.
One case that comes to mind immediately is the Puerto Rican sightings of the chupacabra. Now, this beast is sighted all the way up through Mexico and into the south western United States, but the beast that is sighted in Puerto Rico seems to be an entirely different animal than the more northernly sightings. The Mexican and American sightings are often described in a way that makes it sound like a dog, in fact some people theorize that it is simply a breed of dog that is as of yet unidentified or a mutated breed of coyote. The chupacabra in Puerto Rico could never be mistaken for a dog. It is described as a malevolent creature with glowing red eyes, spines running down the length of it's back, and it seems to often be accompanied by a "vibrating" (there is that word again) aura that seems to shimmer and change colors and is often accompanied by a sound. It is said to be reptilian (Which would be of interest to those who study the ET races) having leathery or scaly skin. It is also said to screech when alarmed and emit a sulfuric odor, which is why some highly religious people believe that it is a demon, or somehow evil in nature. It's most famous attribute (and how it got it's name "goat sucker") is of course the fact that it is reported to drain all the blood from it's victims, most often livestock and often times goats in general.While all of this, admittedly, sounds like the rantings of a crazy person it's hard to write it off as that alone. The sheer amounts of sightings with amazingly similar circumstances make one at least consider the possibilities. If Puerto Rico is home to one of the intersections in dimensions it could be theorized that the chupacabra sometimes appears in our reality, and then returns to it's home in another dimension.
For the average person this will sound no more sane than the reports have sounded in the past. The thought of inter-dimensional travel is nothing more to these people than something they saw on Star Trek and is laughable at best. But, this is where it interests me the most. Science fiction has often times become science fact as our technological minds have grown and mankind is still very young in it's developmental stages of thought and we are learning and evolving at a more rapid rate than we ever have in our past. Things that seemed like looney bin mentality only 50 years ago are daily parts of our life now. (Cell phones, computers, e-mail, fiber optics, transistors....) When these things were first theorized they were met with every bit of the skeptical denial that more complex theories like string theory are met with today.
I think the more rational line of thought is that some (MOST) people simply do not WANT to believe this. If they allowed themselves to believe in inter-dimensional beings and other worlds and planes of existence they would have to completely re-think everything they ever thought they knew and their comfort zone in this world would be shattered. It's a huge concept to take in. Certain views, particularly those of religion, would be challenged to the breaking point and some people do not want to be faced with that type of dilema. For those people it is easier to scoff and enter into denial than it is to turn the microscope upon their own belief system. I truly believe that a revelation such as this would be more than some people are prepared to handle. But, let us not forget that this principle...this theory...was NOT submitted to us from the world of the crazy paranormal investigator or the new age wackos...this theory was brought to us by the world of SCIENCE. This is the world that the "normal" people used to embrace and use as their barrier against the unknown world. That alone is a lot to take in.
The paranormal implications of the string theory are just a very small part of what interests me. There is a whole world of discovery that could/would be brought about by the proving of this theory. Alternative ways to feed our planet. Alternative energy sources that would revolutionize the world and break us from our dependency on fossil fuels. Re-stocking items that we have depleted through the years of greed on this planet. These things alone would be revolutionary and life changing. If the theory is true and you could learn how to vibrate the strings in the correct fashion to produce matter or alter matter even ancient concepts such as alchemy would be common place. If you could vibrate the matter of a block of wood in the proper way to convert it into food or water or gold....The hunger issue on our planet would be solved, poverty would be a thing of the past, and we would have a life time of free and clean energy. Unfortunately, this is where doubt creeps back into my mind. Mankind has proven exponentially to be inherently evil and greedy, and I fear that a knowledge such as this could inevitably be used to imprison man kind and keep us further buried in antiquity. If we do not grow spiritually as well as mentally this knowledge could destroy us. If this power were used in the creation of super weapons or other means of destruction the end of all man kind as we know it could be right around the corner.
Perhaps this has happened on this planet already? Are the legends of a superior race called the Atlanteans more than just legends? Did an advanced culture exist at one time in Egypt, or the Mayan kingdoms? If so, why did they just vanish off the face of the Earth? Maybe they never existed on the Earth to begin with. Maybe they were masters of dimensional travel sent here to guide us on our path of spiritual and mental growth trying to prepare us for the knowledge that we would one day be given. Or, maybe they became to greedy and used their knowledge for evil and eliminated themselves from the equation by abusing the power. As I open this entirely new can of worms, I will end this article and let you ponder this as you will.
I cannot stress to you enough that these are just thoughts. I have no basis for these views other than a limited exposure to an amazing theory that I have become obsessed with. I am not equipped with the intellect to even begin to PRETEND to understand this theory at it's root, but the broad brush strokes that I have picked up on have completely changed the way I view the world(s) around me. But please...do not take my article as my attempt to educate you on the principles of this theory, you need to consult much more intelligent persons than I for that. All I am attempting to do is to open your eyes to the possibilities and tempt you to want to know more about this concept. If I have interested even one person enough to make them want to know more, then I will feel like my job is done. Sometimes you have to extend your mind beyond the things that it can see, smell, taste, feel and hear. You have to use your imagination and your intellect to actually make any sort of discovery, and all discoveries begin with ideas. All I am attempting to do is to plant a seed that could develop into an idea. If this seems like insanity or "crazy talk" to you, you are welcome to return to your regularly scheduled programming.
